Information
from Transport Canada – As of April 1st, the Canada
Border Services Agency (CBSA - formerly Canada Customs) will no longer
issue Small Pleasure Craft licences on behalf of Transport Canada. The
CBSA has been issuing pleasure craft licences since the 1940s.
Service Canada will take over these services at its 320 Service
Canada Centres across the country – tripling the number of locations to
obtain a license. Service
Canada will develop a modern licensing system to provide search and rescue
and law enforcement agencies with access to licence information 24 / 7.
Under the Small Vessel Regulations of the Canada Shipping Act, all
pleasure craft 15 gross tons or less and powered by an engine 10
horsepower (7.5 kilowatts) or more must be licensed or registered,
regardless of where they operate in Canada.
Licenses will continue to be issued free of charge.
